The problem with trading from home
If you trade at markets, fairs, car boots or seasonal events, your stock and kit has to live somewhere between pitches. For most traders that means the garage, the loft, the back of the van or a corner of every room in the house. Every event then starts with an hour of digging things out and ends with an hour of carrying them back in.
A unit turns that into one stop. Everything is stored together, packed in the order you need it, and ready to load.
Why a roller-shutter unit suits traders
A roller shutter makes it easier to get gazebos, weights, trestle tables, display stands and stock crates in and out. Our 150 sq ft and 180 sq ft units both have shutters, and the 300 sq ft two-storey unit adds an upstairs office or storage area with a window.
Early starts and late finishes
Market days begin early and events can finish late. Access here is 24 hours, every day, so you are never waiting for someone to unlock a gate. The lights are already in, so loading in the dark is no problem.
Using the unit between events
Many traders find the unit becomes more than storage. With power and free Wi-Fi already connected you can:
- Price and tag new stock on a bench rather than at the kitchen table.
- Run an online shop alongside your stall, using the same stock.
- Take deliveries from wholesalers at a business address instead of at home.
- Do the books and plan your next event in the shared tea and coffee room.
Seasonal trading and short terms
Blackpool's trading calendar is busy in some months and quiet in others. Because the minimum term is just one month and the agreement then rolls month to month, you are not locked into a year-long lease. Give one month's notice when you no longer need the space. You can also move to a different size if one is free.
Licences and pitches
Pitch bookings and street trading permissions are separate from renting a unit and are arranged with the market or event organiser, or with the council where street trading consent is needed. Blackpool Council publishes its own licensing and street trading information on its website.
Every business activity needs our approval before you move in, to keep the building insurance valid. Tell us what you sell and what equipment you will store. Vehicles cannot be stored in the units.
